Alumni Spotlight: Tyler Bailey '07

Tyler Bailey, a 2007 Hammond graduate, followed his dream of becoming a lawyer. By the age of 28, he was named one of the Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Organization and named one of the Best and Brightest 35 and Under by the Columbia Business Monthly Magazine.

"When I first arrived at Hammond as an Upper School student, I was okay with being a decent student because I was somewhat of a good athlete and knew that I would get an athletic scholarship to college.  At my previous school, expectations were set lower for me because of my athletic ability. My teachers and fellow classmates at Hammond challenged me to reach deeper and not settle for success in just one area of my life.  The peer pressure and knowing that my fellow student athletes took  studying seriously made me reevaluate the effort I was giving in the classroom."

The academic push by Hammond carried over to Tyler's college and law school successes. After graduating from Hampton University with honors, Tyler attended Southern University Law Center, where he graduated Cum Laude and in the top 15% of his graduating class.

"The biggest impact Hammond had on me is by helping me develop the work ethic required to succeed in life despite varying obligations. I believe my experience at Hammond with my teachers, administrators, coaches, and fellow classmates played a big role in me developing that mentality and it's still serving me well today."

Tyler is involved in the community, a member of the Hammond Alumni Council, husband to Allyce, and proud father to his one year old, Ty.
