Skyhawk Story- Sims Witherspoon

Sims spent 5th grade through 10th grade at Hammond where she established a strong academic foundation and developed a passion for travel that she has continued as Global Marketing Lead for Crisis Response at Google and the Product Marketing Manager for SOS Alerts living in Shanghai and now London. Sims loves the opportunities and challenges of living abroad although she misses her family and looks forward to returning home for a visit in October that will include a stop by the State Fair to grab her favorite American treat, corndogs.

"My favorite memories from Hammond involve the teachers who talked to me about their passions and helped me learn about mine. My 8th grade Geography teacher, Patrick Snead, told me that traveling could teach you as much (if not more) than a classroom. I tested his theory; he was right. Linda Khoury is the reason I love theater, know that Shakespeare fixes any bad day and developed a confidence in front of crowds that enabled me to give speeches for Google very early in my career. She radiates, so any student lucky enough to be on her stage should soak up the light. Steven Hillard, who conducted our choir, once gave me a powerful, concise pep-talk that I still quote when anyone on my team needs encouragement: 'if someone could do it better, I wouldn't have picked you.' These teachers- the ones who love what they do and help students have the confidence to explore their own passions- were the best part of Hammond for me.
