Simms Oliphant (’09) Spreads Her Wings to Pursue Master’s in Arts and Cultural Management at Kings College in London

Emily Bedenbaugh
A 2009 Hammond graduate, Simms followed her passion for music, which she developed during her time as a student in Hammond's fine arts department, and studied music composition at the University of South Carolina Honors College and School of Music. She returned to Hammond's campus in 2014 to work with students teaching chorus and AP Music Theory. After an enriching experience, Simms has decided to embark on a new adventure, obtaining her master's degree in arts and cultural management. She will soon head to King's College in London to pursue her master's and work towards a career in arts administration. In her own words, Simms describes how the Hammond experience prepared her for college and beyond:

"As a student, I was largely involved in the arts, specifically chorus and drama, and I fully credit the faculty in the fine arts department with inciting and fostering my interest in the subjects that have led me to where I am today. As a teacher, I was energized to continue evolving and progressing myself as a student, and I will be forever grateful to the Hammond faculty for emphasizing the importance of identifying ways in which you can contribute to what you are most passionate about."
