Schoolwide Service Learning

This year's schoolwide service learning project paired the youngest students with the oldest to package 25,000 meals in our stop hunger project. The enthusiasm and excitement was contagious with lots of laughter, camaraderie, and learning.  This marks the third year Hammond has packed meals, with the total number reaching 75,000 to date.  Of the many service learning projects on campus, Rise Up Against Hunger is one of the few that not only involves students of all ages and grades, but one in which they are also a part of the project from beginning to end.  Students raise money to purchase meals, package the meals, and track who receives the meals and when.  Each meal costs 29 cents, so everyone can participate and know they are contributing.
