Private Independent school from PK through 12th grade.

The lower grades form the foundation for success.

The Lower School is a remarkable place for children to learn and grow. Our philosophy for early learners embraces a well-rounded approach emphasizing independence, confidence, and a love of learning. Our curriculum inspires the growth of each learner by providing rich opportunities to expand curiosity, critical thinking, and social-emotional growth.

Students' learning extends regularly through our faculty specialists in physical education, art, music, science, technology, library, nature and Spanish, each housed in stimulating settings to engage through active and creative interdisciplinary explorations.

Building life-long relationships and a strong sense of community is as much a part of the Lower School experience as anything else. Weekly gatherings, family style lunches, collaborative lessons, celebrations, and activities between grade levels begin with our youngest students and further strengthen our tight-knit community. Our 7:1 Lower School faculty to student ratio and team-style collaboration with parents helps to craft each child's educational journey and support each child every step of the way.

Learning Outside the Classroom

Transporting the classroom into the world begins as early as prekindergarten.  South Campus excursions to one of several natural areas and ecosystems, guided by our own naturalist-in-residence, give students their first taste of experiential learning.  These field studies expand to include day trips to places like Charleston and Brattonsville that complement our curriculum, and culminate in a 4th grade overnight adventure in Earthshine.
