Chasing a Dream

Jeff Barnes, Athletic Director
You might just say Tucker Toman grew up with a baseball glove in his hand. The son of a coach, he fell in love with the sport that has now become his passion. On a daily basis, Tucker can be found on Hammond’s baseball diamond or in the batting cages, perfecting his skills alongside his teammates.  Hard work coupled with natural talent have helped him become one of the top baseball players in the country. This summer found Tucker with a full schedule that included baseball showcases and All-American games from California to Florida and points in between.
An LSU commit, he was part of the Phillies Scout Team, traveling the Southeast and playing in major tournaments against the country’s top talent. His success helped earn him the chance to play in the MLB Futures Game in Colorado at Coors Field, Home of the Rockies. After leaving Colorado, he was selected to participate in the Perfect Game All-Star Game at Petco Park in San Diego, home of the Padres. While there, he was a finalist in the homerun derby with a total of nine homeruns. Following his stint in San Diego, he was selected a member of the 18U USA Baseball National Baseball Team Trials in Sarasota Florida where he once again competed for a spot on the USA National Team. After spending time at the Orioles Spring Training facility, Tucker played in the All-American Game in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Royals. Most recently, he competed in the World Wood Bat Tournament World Series in Florida.
Tucker’s talent and work ethic continue to amaze as he works to realize his dream of one day playing in the major leagues. More importantly, what happens when he steps off the field is what makes Tucker so special. A natural leader, beloved and respected by his peers, he manages to successfully balance the academic rigor at Hammond with the demands of perfecting his baseball skills.
