Chance and Lauren Miller sought a special learning environment for their children, Cason and Caylor. After both children were diagnosed with hearing loss resulting in the two wearing hearing aids for life, the Millers knew they needed a school that would not only challenge them academically, but nurture and accept them. Small class sizes with individualized attention would help provide the support and acceptance the children needed. While word of mouth recommendations pointed them in the direction of Hammond, it is their own experience that has made them lifelong Skyhawks.According to Lauren, “Each time we discussed independent school options, Hammond’s name and reputation stood out as the top choice. We were invited to numerous Hammond events by current families and always felt welcome.” This welcoming feeling extended to faculty and staff as well, and soon helped the Millers make a decision that would most benefit the children. “We were so impressed with everything we saw and everyone we met that we decided to start Cason a year early in PreKindergarten and are so thankful we did.”Both Cason and Caylor are thriving academically and socially, two things that were especially important. “We are very impressed with how our children have become independent and confident in themselves to achieve whatever they set out to do. We notice how each time we visit the school with our children, every staff member we pass knows our children by name. Hammond is not only helping them excel academically but is feeding Cason’s passion for sports and nurturing Caylor’s interest in the arts.” notes Lauren. In looking back over the past two years, what really stands out for the Miller family is the way in which Hammond handled the pandemic. “They went out of their way to give our children the most normal school experience possible. It was an especially difficult year, but one made special by the teachers and staff. Hammond truly set the example for being better together.”
