College Counseling
Seniors:
SAT School Day for SENIORS - We are offering seniors the opportunity to take the SAT on Monday, October 5th during the school day here at Hammond. Please use this link to register for this SAT Test. The deadline to register is Friday, September 4th. Note: This is a closed opportunity for seniors only. 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT on campus the same day. More information on this test will be shared with families soon!
Upper School Students:
- College Counseling Kickoff Nights – Parents and students, please join us for your respective grade level’s College Counseling Kickoff event where our team will discuss what college preparation should look like for you at this stage in your high school career. The main purpose of these events is to guide you through what we believe are the most important steps to take as a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior to increase your college options in the future. These meetings are mandatory for all students and at least one parent. Each program will take place in the Bank of America Theater at 6:30pm.
- 11th Grade College Counseling Kickoff – Tuesday, September 8th
- 10th Grade College Counseling Kickoff – Monday, September 14th
- 9th Grade College Counseling Kickoff – Tuesday, September 22nd
Paying for College – We are also offering a special event for 11th and 12th Grade Parents called “Paying for College”. This event will take place on Monday, September 28th at 6:00 PM in the Lecture Hall. Topics include state lottery scholarships (HOPE, LIFE, Palmetto Fellows), scholarship search, financial aid procedures and applications, and more. Students are not required to attend, as this is traditionally a parent program.
College Representative Visits: College Representative Visits begin next week! A benefit of the Hammond experience is the opportunity to connect with college admissions officers during the school day. Each year, numerous colleges visit Hammond School to meet with interested students and share brief introductions about their schools. These sessions are typically held during lunch in the Lecture Hall. Grab your lunch quickly from the Dining Hall and then join us as soon as you can! All 9th-12th graders are invited to attend. Students need not sign up in advance, but if for any reason a college needs to visit during a class period, students must get permission to attend from their teachers in advance of the sessions. The complete (and growing!) schedule of College Representative Visits can be found on the HawkNet calendar and SCOIR (our college counseling platform for 11th and 12th grades), and an abbreviated schedule for each week's sessions will always be included on the Tuesday E-Note. We will also share college visits each week on our Instagram account, @HammondCollegeCounseling. Questions? Please contact Natalie Salley by email.
