Andrew M. North, Head of School
Andy North, Head of School, is a native of Florence, South Carolina. Andy earned a bachlor's degree in English at Sewanee and a master's degree in education administration and supervision at the University of Virginia.
Andy often points back to his own days as a student at Baylor School, where the encouragement of teachers, coaches, and mentors made a lasting impact. That influence is what ultimately led him into education — and it’s the same sense of care and connection he brings to Hammond.
Before stepping into his current role, Andy led Hammond’s Middle School and, prior to that, served in several leadership roles at the Episcopal School of Acadiana, including Head of Upper School, Dean of Students, and Summer Programs Developer. In his first year as Head of School, Andy was honored with SCISA’s First Year Head of School Award. He serves on the boards of both South Carolina Independent School Association and the Palmetto Association of Independent Schools.
Ask anyone around campus, and they’ll tell you Andy leads with relationships first. His philosophy is simple: curiosity matters, and connections make all the difference. Under his leadership, Hammond has continued to grow with new programs, expanded opportunities, and fresh energy around its mission.
Andy and his wife, Becca, are the proud parents of two Skyhawks, Dansby ’28 and Miller ’32.
