Random Things We Love About Hammond

Cissy Pope

Red.  Love, power, passion and excitement … we wouldn’t be us without red.

Smiles.  940 that no mask can hide.

Teachers.  Chalk it up to the instructors … all of whom are the mentors, coaches, and cheerleaders that form the cornerstone of Hammond and set the foundation for everything we do.

Skyhawks.  Friday night lights, cheering from the sidelines, state championship wins, and everything that makes us a team.

The Hammond Fight Song.  What a great way to end the week … in the Kiva, wearing red, and being loud.

Red Shoes.  It’s anyone’s guess which red shoes Mr. Angel will wear on Friday mornings. Come to think of it, his Skyhawk pants are pretty spiffy too.

College Counseling.  The only department more interested in seeing you leave than seeing you stay.

Sherlock Holmes hats.  Hats off to Mr. Mancke who scours South Campus for clues to unravelling the mystery of life … with a bevy of four-year-old Watsons in tow.

Chicken Nacho Day.  A dining hall favorite, it’s a party on tortillas we’ve been missing since “19” dropped in on 2020.

Frost on the field.  It reminds us that spring will return and so will the cheers and laughter that baseball brings.

The Nature Cabin.  Our virtual museum that houses artifacts from past to present, all accentuated by the scent of a wood-burning fire.

Connections.  Hammond is a tie that binds … starting with heartstrings.

Chapel Bells.  The sound of the chapel bells pealing the refrain of our alma mater on Friday afternoons signals the end of another week and reminds us as we leave that we are all a part of something bigger.

The Heart of Hammond.  No matter how far you go, you're only a heartbeat away from Hammond and the circle that makes us a family.
