Athletic Director, Teacher, and Coach

Coach Al Hough was Hammond's first Director of Athletics. While serving as Athletic Director, Coach Hough taught math and physical education, coached and started the baseball, basketball, track, and golf programs. He led the basketball team to its first state championship in 1970 and the baseball program to its first championship game. Coach Hough was an integral part of fundraising for athletics, and the design of the gym, a facility later used for practice by legendary Coach Frank McGuire. A Skyhawk, but also a Gamecock, he played basketball at the University of South Carolina from 1952-1954 and ran track from 1952-1953, living by the motto, Do things the right way and do it with class and good sportsmanship.
