Root Robots at Hammond: Collaborating with a startup out of Harvard’s Wyss Institute

Root Robots are coded using three different coding languages that build to teach more sophisticated computer language skills, culminating with Java Script. As part of this collaboration, students use two pre-production prototypes, experiencing firsthand the tech start up cycle of product design and iteration.

Middle School faculty members are helping develop curriculum to accompany the robots by providing feedback as they create lesson plans to incorporate in the classroom. By the end of this school year every Hammond 5th and 6th grader will know how to code the Root Robot.

Hammond is currently the only Middle School in the Southeast working with Root to spark an interest in young students to understand coding.
