Hammond Announces 2018 Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni Award Recipients

Each year, representatives of Hammond's Alumni Council select recipients of the Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni Awards. The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes Hammond alums, who over time have achieved excellence in their field of endeavor, demonstrated exceptional loyalty or service in their personal or professional lives, and in doing so, have served as excellent role models for all Hammond alumni, students and future generations of graduates. The Young Alumni Award was established in 2016 to recognize a young alum whose achievements positively reflect Hammond School. Criteria for the award include being 40 years or younger, making an impact on their industry and having professional accomplishments. Leaders in their profession and community, the Young Alumni Award recipient should possess an unmistakable tradition of achievement and truly be making a difference. 

2018 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, Reba Campbell (Class of 1979)
The 2018 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award is Reba Hull Campbell from the Class of 1979. Reba is Deputy Director the SC Municipal Association. She says she’s in the perfect job to combine her love of all things South Carolina with her love of politics. In her 13 years with the Municipal Association of South Carolina, she has been able to visit well over half of the state’s 271 cities with the goal of visiting them all. Reba joined the Association in 2005 and became deputy executive director in 2008. Her primary focus at the Association is leading advocacy, outreach, communications and research strategies on behalf of South Carolina cities and towns. Reba’s experience on the front lines of politics and policy development in Washington, DC and South Carolina includes more than 10 years as a press secretary and lobbyist on Capitol Hill; fundraising and campaign leadership positions for local, state and federal candidates; director of a statewide foundation; and lobbyist for the state’s public television network for ten years.
 
Reba is a graduate of the University of South Carolina’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications where she remains involved mentoring students. Currently, she is president of the SC chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and serves on several Midlands areas boards. Reba is a frequent presenter and writer who has received regional and national awards for her work on communications, leadership and advocacy topics. In her free time, Reba enjoys travel anywhere that has bike paths. She is learning to play the ukulele so she can reach her goal of “quitting life to join the band.” Reba’s blog, Random Connect Points, features her writings ranging from issue-driven news stories to personal essays.  
 
2018 Young Alumni Award Recipient, Andy Folsom (Class of 1999)
The 2018 recipient of the Young Alumni Award is Andy Folsom from the class of 1999. Andy is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. After practicing law in Atlanta for several years, he returned to Columbia to work for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Currently he is an Assistant Vice President in charge of Acquisitions and Strategic Investments and also the President of a subsidiary company, Companion Capital Management. Andy currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the United Way of the Midlands. He also is the President of Salute from the Shore, a non-profit formed to honor the military. Additionally, he serves on the Boards of the Riverbanks Zoo Society, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina and the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Andy and his wife, Lucy, are the parents of two Skyhawks, Anderson and Heathley, and two future Skyhawks, Roscoe and Currie.
