Evin Moore '14 Returns to Lead the Classroom

Alumna Evin Moore '14 has returned to Hammond in a new role this school year, leading eighth grade students as a science teacher.

When did you begin your Hammond career and what are some of your favorite memories?
I began in first grade and loved all of the trips we were able to take throughout the years. Our junior class trip to Costa Rica was meaningful for me because it helped me realize that I wanted to explore the world. As a student at Furman University, I traveled to Greece and studied religion and art/architecture. Another favorite memory happened on our senior trip. My group was struggling to build a campfire, and out of nowhere, Mr. Mancke appeared from the woods and helped us.

What did you study at Furman?
I studied Biology and Science Education. Two of my favorite teachers at Hammond were Mr. Rice and Mr. Lumpkin. They both were so engaging in the classroom and connected with students well. It makes a huge difference for student learning when you have that connection.

What are some of your goals for the school year?
1. Make learning science relatable and fun.
2. Encourage team work and collaboration among students as well as teachers.
3. Utilize the incredible new technology in the Innovation Center. It is an amazing, new resource and allows students of all ages the ability to explore new ideas with cutting edge technology. I am excited to see the ways that teachers and students use the space to transform ideas into reality.
