The Jeter Family
Mr. Damon and Dr. Ragin Jeter wanted to find a school for their daughter, Morgan, that would support her from Pre-K through 12th grade. They wanted an inclusive environment and a safe community in which their daughter could thrive.
That’s where Hammond School came in.
Damon is a registered lobbyist, and Ragin is a pediatrician. “What impressed me is that they definitely have more diversity,” says Ragin. “Being that my child is a child of color, I wanted her to be around other kids that looked like her, but also other races and cultures as well so she can learn that the world isn’t just white or black.” Ragin grew up in Columbia and never thought she would send her daughter to Hammond. But after visiting the school and talking with some of the teachers and administrators, the Jeters knew Hammond was the best place for Morgan.
They enrolled Morgan in Pre-K and watched her flourish. “She knows things I probably didn’t know at that age,” says Ragin. “I don’t feel, with Morgan going to Hammond, that I have to worry about her learning and getting a good education.” The Jeters love Hammond’s teachers. Every teacher seems to know Morgan and care about her well-being. “One of the things we’ve been impressed with is that the teachers take extremely good care of every child,” says Damon. “Everybody’s involved.”
Now in her second year at Hammond, Morgan continues to love school and learn new things. When the Jeters' second child, Myles, is old enough, they hope to enroll him in Hammond as well. Watching Morgan thrive has convinced them that Hammond is the right school for their children. “For us,” says Damon, “knowing that she’s getting a start on a great foundation with education, knowing that she’s in a loving environment, any parent should want that.”
