1. If you have not already done so, call the Office
of College Counseling and speak to Ms. Sylvia Easler (Registrar)
to schedule an appointment to meet with Mrs. Bickley.
One or both of your parents should plan to attend with
you. You must bring your copy of the College Information
Guide you received last semester during your first family
meeting with Mrs. Bickley and your resume.
2. If you are planning to apply Early Decision, Early
Action, or Early Notification, you must let Mrs. Bickley
know by the end of August.
3. It is your responsibility to check SAT II requirements
for each college to which you are applying. Register
for SAT II’s as needed.
4. Seniors should plan to take the SAT on October 6.
Registration deadline is September 10. Hammond’s
school code is 410533. You must enter this code for
Hammond to receive your scores.
5. Your first college application is due by October
1. See page 107 in your College
Information Guide for other deadlines.
Please note: Applications must be submitted to the Office
of College Counseling at least two weeks prior to postmark
deadlines specified by colleges or scholarship committees.
The office will be unable to accommodate last minute
applications. Such requests can result in costly errors.
We are not willing to take that risk. College applications
are a serious business.
6. Make use of the websites provided in your College
Information Guide to explore scholarship opportunities.
You will also want to call individual college/university
financial aid offices and inquire about institutional
scholarships. Check college/university websites as well.
Additional scholarships are posted on the Hammond School
College Counseling website as they come to our attention.
Check the site often.
7. Plan to visit colleges during the fall if you have
not already done so. You are responsible for making
arrangements with your teachers prior to your trip and
will be held responsible for any work missed.
8. College representatives will begin visiting campus
soon. Use these visits as a means to explore college
options and to develop relationships with admission
reps. Check the Hammond School College Counseling website
for upcoming visits. Visits are posted as soon as the
appointment is made.
If you plan to attend one of these sessions, you must
first get permission from your
classroom teacher and are responsible for any missed
work.
9. Words to the Wise:
• Make a habit of checking the Daily Announcements
and the College Counseling website for important information
from the College Counseling Office.
• Regularly check the College Board outside the
College Counseling Office.
• Make use of your College Information Guide as
you move through application season.
