1. 1. Seniors should consider registering
for the Vocare’ Workshop led by Coach Larry Moshell
on February 23, 9:00-12:00, in the Lecture Hall. Registration
and workshop information was mailed January 23. The Vocare’ Workshop
will provide insightful information concerning your personal
abilities and will serve as an excellent tool as you begin
to make decisions concerning college majors and future
vocations. Registration deadline: February 15.
2. Please keep Mrs. Bickley posted as you receive your
admission decisions. Colleges do not notify the College
Counseling Office of individual acceptances.
3. Keep a list of all scholarships you are offered and
the amounts awarded. The College Counseling Office will
ask you for this information in late April or early May.
4. Revisit schools if you need help making your decision
over the next several months. Make arrangements in advance
with teachers. Notify the Upper School Office of your
travel plans in advance. May 1 is National Decision Day.
You will need to make your choice and notify colleges
of your selection by this date. You will need to do so
in writing. Remember: End-of-the-year transcripts will
be sent to the one college you designate as your college
of choice.
5. If you are still attempting to qualify for the LIFE
scholarship (SAT 1100/ACT 24, GPA 3.0) or the PALMETTO
FELLOW SCHOLARSHIP (SAT 1400/ACT 32, GPA 4.0), you can
take the SAT/ACT through the June test date. The SAT
is offered March 1, May 3, and June 7. Register online
at www.collegeboard.com. The ACT is offered February
9, April 12, June 14. Register online at www.actstudent.org .
6. A copy of your updated transcript (with refigured
GPA including first semester senior year) has been included
in this mailing. Please proof it carefully. If there
are errors, please notify Ms. Sylvia Easler ASAP.
7. Stay in contact with individual college financial
aid offices concerning financial aid requirements and
institutional scholarship possibilities.
8. Families interested in being considered for financial
aid need to complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA). It can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Some private institutions also require the CSS Profile
which can be found at www.collegeboard.com.
9. Continue to the Hammond School College Counseling
website. Scholarship information will be posted as it
comes available.
10. Your Hammond School College Guidebook has a number
of financial aid/scholarship websites that should continue
to prove useful in your scholarship search. Many of these
websites are directly linked from the Hammond School
College Counseling website as well.
11. Write thank you notes to those people who provided
recommendations or other assistance during your college
application process. This includes any college admission
officer who might have been especially helpful at specific
institutions.
12. CALENDAR CHANGE: Awards Day will now be May 16 rather
than the originally
announced May 23.
