Make a habit of checking the college
counseling website at least once a week. Go to
www.hammondschool.org.
Follow the links to College Counseling then to From the
Director’s Desk for current topics of interest from
Mrs. Bickley and for the latest scholarship information.

Deadlines are serious business in the
world of college admissions. The deadlines set by the
Office of College Counseling are designed to ensure that
we are able to work effectively on your behalf. With this
in mind, please note: Admission/scholarship applications
with December 1 deadlines are due in the College Counseling
Office no later than November 16. Due to the serious nature
of college applications, the College Counseling Office
will be unable to offer a rush service. Plan accordingly.
-
Clemson and the University of South
Carolina both have a Priority Deadline of December 1.
If you plan to apply to either of these schools, you must
turn in your completed application to the Office of College
Counseling no later than November 16.
-
At this point you should have already
submitted at least one completed college application.
If you have not, see Mrs. Bickley immediately.
-
Make sure each application packet is
complete prior to giving it to Ms. Easler. Unfortunately,
incomplete packets cannot be processed. Use the yellow
Online Application Checklist as your guide.
-
All applications should be completed
by December 3. Any application turned in after December
3 runs the risk of being mailed after we return to school
in January. Applications are processed on a first-come,
first-served basis.

Mark Your Calendars: Financial Aid
Night for senior parents, 5:00 pm, November 27, in Lecture
Hall.
-
Don’t forget to send your SAT/ACT
scores directly from College Board/ACT. Do this online.
Mrs. Bickley cannot do this for you. Rare is the college
that will accept SAT/ACT scores on high school transcripts.
-
Check the Daily Announcements every
day for information pertaining to seniors/college admissions.
Senior should also check email daily. Many colleges are
using email as their primary means of contact.
-
College reps continue to visit campus.
Rep visits are posted on the website, on the College Counseling
bulletin board in Manning Hall, and in the Daily Announcements.
Make arrangements with your classroom teacher in advance.
As always, you are responsible for making up any work
missed.
-
The next SAT is December 1. Registration

Don’t forget: The Office of
College Counseling will be forwarding your first semester
grades to each college/university to which you have applied.
Your GPA will be refigured at the end of first semester…STUDY,
STUDY, STUDY!
-
Write thank you notes to the teachers
and the outside sources who graciously authored recommendations
for you.
-
Continue to visit/revisit colleges
in order to make an informed admission decision. Make
arrangements in advance with classroom teachers. You will
be responsible for any work missed.
-
Now is the time to contact the Financial
Aid Office at individual colleges/universities to inquire
about institutional scholarships for which you might be
eligible.
-
If you plan to apply for financial
aid, your family will need to complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA cannot be completed/submitted
prior to January 2008; however, in order to complete the
FAFSA, you will need a federal PIN. PIN number applications
can be made ahead of time at www.pin.ed.gov.
