Other Libraries

Below are libraries you might find useful. They offer a number of resources and services for patrons.

RCPL

Richland County Public Library
http://www.richland.lib.sc.us
RCPL is considered one of the top 100 libraries in the country. Access to the extensive collection of books, databases and services at RCPL is only a library card away. You can reserve a book, link to a database, or get homework help (under the “Kids Site” and “Teen Central”). Click on “Research Tools” and select the subject you are interested in to access the databases. Click the “Library Databases” and enter your library card number and the last four digits of your telephone number.

University Libraries
Thomas Cooper Library
http://www.sc.edu/library/
Thomas Cooper is the largest academic library in the state. Many of their services are only available to USC students; however, some of the resources available to us are “Suggested Internet Resources,” “Digital Collections,” and “Subject Guides.” In cases of special need, Mrs. Barron can check out books from Thomas Cooper.

Library of Congress

Library of Congress
http://www.loc.gov/index.html
They say it best: “The Library of Congress … [is] the largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts in its collections. The Library's mission is to make its resources available and useful to the Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations. ”

Spending time exploring this site can be very rewarding. Check out the “American Memory Project,” for access to the library’s collections organized by topic. “Thomas” gives you access to legislative information and a wealth of political data and government resources. You can access global/international resources through the “Global Gateway.” This is only a small portion of the resources at your fingertips.
