John Glenn was just named one of Charleston's Forty Under 40 by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. John currently co-owns Fat & Juicy Brands, which include Fat & Juicy Bloody Mary Mix and Fat & Juicy Margarita Mix. Fat & Juicy has grown from availability in just one bar in Charleston to availability in over 46 states and 5 foreign countries in just 28 months.

Senior Jake Nidiffer has signed to play baseball for Newberry College.  Accompanied by his parents, Lee Anne ('84) and David, Baseball Coach Ray Derrick, Athletic Director Jeff Barnes, and Headmaster Chris Angel, Jake officially became a Newberry Wolf at the signing.  In addition to serving as quarterback of the football team, Jake has been a standout on the Skyhawk's baseball team.  Congratulations, Jake!

Julian produced and is co-starring in the 2013 submarine thriller Phantom starring Ed Harris, David Duchovny and William Fichtner, written and directed by Todd Robinson (writer-director of Lonely Hearts, and writer and co-producer of Ridley Scott's White Squall). Phantom was released across the US on March 1st. Along with Julian, the producing team includes John Watson and Pen Densham (Back Draft, Blown Away, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.).
 
Phantom is the first wide theatrical release for Julian and Solar Filmworks, the South Carolina based production company, founded by Julian and his father Weston Adams. Together Julian and Weston wrote and produced the maiden project for Solar Filmworks, The Last Confederate: The Story of Robert Adams (THINKFilm 2007). In the film, Julian portrayed his great-great grandfather Captain Robert Adams, South Carolina cavalryman during the Civil War, while Weston portrayed the older Robert in the film. The Last Confederate won 10 Film Festival Awards, including Best Actor Award for Julian, and seven Producing Awards for father and son. The Last Confederate is in release worldwide.
 
Julian is currently partnered with Emmy Award Winning director-writer-producer, Todd Robinson. In 2009, he produced the Robinson directed music documentary, Amy Cook: The Spaces in Between, which was released by The Documentary Channel. Robinson and Adams then developed the story for Phantom, which is based on true events during the Cold War. Ed Harris plays the haunted Captain of the Soviet submarine who holds the fate of the world in his hands. Forced to leave his wife and daughter, he is rushed into a classified mission, where is he haunted by his past and challenged by a rogue KGB group (led by David Duchovny) bent on seizing control of the ship's nuclear missile. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Harris discovers he has been chosen for this mission in the belief he would fail. Phantom is a suspense submarine thriller about extraordinary men facing impossible choices. Phantom is in release now, and will hit television and DVD soon.
 
On the docket for Adams and Solar Filmworks -- Julian is producing and acting in Robinson's feature film, The Last Full Measure, starring Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, Robert Duvall, Andy Garcia, and Laurence Fishburne, for a 2014 release. He is also working with writer and executive producer Michael Frost Beckner producing and acting in the Civil War mini-series, from Sony Pictures Television, Grant vs. Lee: To Appomattox (2014) starring Rob Lowe, Will Patton, Bill Paxton, and William Peterson.

 

 

The Right Reverend John. C. Bauerschmidt ('77) will be a guest at Trinity Cathedral on Wednesday, March 20th. He will preach at the 12:30 service in the Cathedral, and then speak at 6:30 pm in Satterlee Hall, following the parish dinner. In addition, there will be an informal conversation with Bishop Bauerschmidt at 5:00 pm in the Daughters Room. All are welcome.

Luke Reynolds joined the U.S. Foreign Service at the Department of State in 2010. He has served as a political officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, Libya and as an economic officer at the U.S. Embassy in Doha, Qatar. He also formed part of the expeditionary team that reestablished the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli in 2011. He will serve as Vice Chair in the U.S. Consulate in Monterrey, Mexico, starting in June 2013.

Prior to joining the Department of State, Luke was a journalist for The Cambodia Daily newspaper in Phnom Penh, a contributing writer to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, and a reporter for The Item newspaper in Sumter, S.C. In 2001 he graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a BA in Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, and in 2007 earned an International MBA from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He speaks Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese.
