Is your campus safe for my Children?
Yes. We have full-time security personnel who work the entire campus. In addition, the school has an emergency plan in place that has been practiced and refined for all school community members.
How can parents get involved?
Our Parent’s Association, Skyhawk Club and Friends of the Arts are happy to welcome all new families into its membership upon acceptance to Hammond School. There are numerous volunteer opportunities no matter what your time commitment is. We look for ways to involve parents and would not be the school we are without our parental support.
Will my child feel welcome as a new student?
Many activities are planned to help all children with the transition into Hammond School. We try to match personalities and interests in making buddy assignments. Students and faculty are very welcoming and enjoy having new students in their classroom.
Where do we get uniforms?
K&M uniforms at 4617 Forest Drive, 782-4115. You may also purchase uniforms through Lands End at http://www.landsend.com/ or 1-800-991-9294. School code is 9000-9318-8
How do we find out what books are needed and where do we buy them?
Textbooks for grades PK-8 are provided by Hammond School and students will receive them in the classroom. Once the Upper School students receive their schedules, they may purchase their books online.
How do I find out about summer reading assignments?
Summer reading lists can be found under Quicklinks on the Hammond School website as well as links under each division’s webpage. Hard copies of the summer reading lists will be available to enrolled students mid-May.
What is the best way for me to get in touch with my child’s teacher?
The email address is available in the Hammond Directory. During the new student orientation at the individual schools, the teachers will also give out contact information.
My child has an interest in arts and athletics. Can they do both?
Yes. Hammond School appreciates and encourages individual talents. The students are encouraged to balance their extra-curricular activities with their academic pursuits.
How do we find out when summer try-outs for extra-curricular activities are?
The try-out dates are posted on our Web site under “Athletics” or you may call the athletic office at 803-695-4022.
What sports do middle and upper school students compete in interscholastically?
Boys and girls compete against other schools in 7-12 grades. Though we don’t require that students play interscholastically (and offer a fantastic p.e. program as an alternative), typically 90% of our middle and upper schoolers play on a Hammond team. Sports include:
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Cheerleading
- Cross-country
- Equestrian
- Football
- Golf
- Lacrosse
- Soccer
- Softball
- Sporting clays
- Swimming
- Tennis
- Track and field
- Volleyball
- Wrestling
How about the arts?
The arts doors are wide open at Hammond School. PK-4 children take music and visual art every year, with an introduction to drama. 5-6 graders move through a required arts rotation. The Middle and Upper School curriculum in grades 7-12 offer electives in choral music, dance, drama, instrumental music, technical drama and visual art.
Is Hammond School only about academics?
While our curriculum sets high standards for our students, it is extremely important for our students to be involved in the life of the school. We know that it is through these experiences on the athletic fields, in the performance venues, and in competitive pursuit of excellence that friendships are created and the bonds are woven even tighter. If you want a school where your child can be challenged, but have fun; where he or she can learn to ask questions, and have teachers who respond with another question; where he or she can learn how a community works, and then have places to contribute and give back to that same community, then Hammond School is for your family.
