Faculty Position

Lower School

Lower School Science
  • Hammond School seeks an energetic and experienced elementary educator with a passion for teaching science, primarily to grades 1 through 4. Ideally, the candidate will have an undergraduate degree in science or elementary education with practicums in science. The school seeks someone to build curriculum, based on best practices, ability to add to the co-curricular life of the school is desirable, and contribute ideas to building a new science laboratory for Lower School.

Lower School Latin
  • Hammond School, a pre-K-12th grade day school located in Columbia, South Carolina, seeks an experienced Latin teacher to implement Latin in its Lower School. It is anticipated that the teacher will collaborate closely with his/her full-time Spanish colleague to team-teach lessons. The Lower School Latin teacher will also work with classroom teachers to incorporate Latin in the everyday classroom. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Classics and have experience with elementary children. Candidates with no elementary experience but an interest in teaching elementary children will be considered. This is a full-time position.
  • The successful candidate will join a vibrant and growing department. There are currently four full-time Latin teachers at Hammond. Latin is required for all 5th and 6th grade students in the Middle School, with opportunities to continue through the Upper School. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who desires to build his/her own Lower School program from the inception of the program. Lower School Technology
  • Hammond School, seeks an energetic and experienced computer teacher to integrate technology into the Lower School and run the computer lab. The applicant will provide instruction to Pre-K through 4th grade classes. In addition, the candidate will collaborate closely with his/her colleagues to assist with Lower School Technology integration. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Technology and have experience with elementary children. This is a full-time position.

Lower School Spanish
  • Hammond School, a pre-K-12th grade day school located in Columbia, South Carolina, seeks an experienced Spanish teacher to bring a passion for languages into Grades 1-4 in its Lower School. A newly-created Lower School language approach will pair the instruction of Spanish with Latin. The Spanish teacher applicant must have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with other teachers. This essential collaboration will have as its goal the incorporation of both Spanish and Latin into the core classroom experience. The successful candidate will possess a Spanish language degree as well as coursework in Latin and other classical languages. In addition, the candidate must have instructional experience with elementary children. This is a full-time position.
