2006 "Heart of Italy" Concert Tour - 12/16/05
It is with great excitement and pride that The Hammond School Select Ensemble will be embarking on an seven-day Concert Tour to Florence, Siena and Rome Italy from February 7-13, 2006. The Select Ensemble has accepted an invitation to be the principal choir singing during the Evening Mass at the Altar of the Chair in Saint Peter’s Basilica on Sunday, February 12, 2006. The 48 singers from the upper school greatly anticipate the opportunity of serving in this role of musical leadership at the Vatican with a sense of honor and humility. The following evening, the Select Ensemble will perform a public concert at the Church of the Gesu for the city of Rome. This performance is one in a series of professionally organized concerts, enjoyed by an audience of over one thousand. Our talented young musicians will also give a public performance at the Church of St. Mark or the Church of Santa Maria del Ricci in Florence.
The Hammond student ambassadors will be lead by representatives and guides from New York based, Peter’s Way Tours Inc., which has organized international musical tours for nearly two decades. Singers will visit the great cities of Florence and Siena while traveling through the incredible country sides of Umbria and Tuscany. Selections to be performed by the Select Ensemble will reflect global unity through music and include such pieces as Dirait on, Set Me As A Seal, In Remembrance, and I’m Gonna Sing Till The Spirit Moves In My Heart.
Besides experiencing such incredible performance opportunities, the concert tour includes astonishing historical sites such as the Sistine Chapel, the Basilicas of Rome and the Catacombs. The ancient venues of Rome; the Coliseum and the Roman Forum will also be visited.
