Varsity Wrestling Pins Third Consecutive State Title - 2/5/07
The Skyhawks won their third straight SCISA State Championship on Saturday at Hammond's Upper School Gym.
Hammond defeated in-town rival Cardinal Newman 60-24 in the championship round. Guy Castles (103), Daniel Baker (125), Bradford MacGillivray (130), Hudson White (135), Tripp Ulmer (145), Ross Power (152), Austin Hood (160), Sam Simmons (189), Will Patterson (215) and Ben Simmons (HWT) won their bouts against the Cards. Reb Boyd (112), Ramsey Ugarte (119), Harrison Dobbs (145) and Weston Verner (140) fought valiantly, but lost their bouts. Junior Hudson White recorded his 100th career victory on Saturday afternoon. White joins an elite club that only had two members: Josh Patterson ('00) and Eddie Fishman ('06).
All members of the varsity team received medals and the team championship trophy. Congratulations to Coach Talbot, Coach Diggans, Coach Kyle Kimrey and the young men for another terrific year! The Skyhawks will travel to Cardinal Newman to compete in the SCISA Individual Tournament on Saturday, February 10. The matches will begin at 10:00 A.M.
