Hammond Community Celebrates the Spirit of the Season - 12/09/05
The sixteenth Holiday Concert was held on December 6 at the Columbia Convention Center. The annual tradition of decorating the tree was continued by the youngest and oldest students at Hammond. As the kindergarteners sang, the pre-kindergarteners and seniors walked hand-in-hand to center stage and hung candy canes on the giant Christmas tree.
The choral program ensued as more than eight hundred Skyhawks raised their voices in song. Hammond’s Select Ensemble gave a world premiere performance of The Icarus Chorale by Mark Warren. This work was commissioned by the choir in honor of Headmaster Herbert Barks for his unsurpassed dedication to achievement in choral music at Hammond School. To conclude the evening’s performances, the combined choirs, (grades 1 – 12), sang a heart-warming rendition of We Will Be A Shelter for Each Other in the Storm by T. Long and A. Pote.
Once again, the family of Hammond celebrated the spirit of the season by experiencing the joy of being together and of seeing Hammond students exhibit their remarkable talents.
