9/22/05
On
September 16th Hammond celebrated the completion and
dedication of its new 3.1 mile Cross Country Course.
Members from all facets of the Hammond community began
gathering at the entrance of the new course around
5:30 for the six o’clock dedication ceremony.
Also in attendance of the ceremony were the children
and grandchildren of Charles Black,
to whom the cross country course was being dedicated.
Hammond
School administration initiated the design of the
course soon after the school and board of trustees
secured a 76 acre tract of land adjacent to the main
campus. The course consists a 5k of trail winding through
wooded area and athletic fields. The cross country
team has been able to utilize the course for practices,
and after some finishing touches have been completed,
the course the will be ready for home meets during
the 2006 season.
