Forty-six Recognized During Beta Club Induction Ceremony - 2/7/2006
The Hammond chapter of the National Junior Beta Club held its annual induction ceremony in the Bank of America Theater on Monday, January 30th 2006. A total of forty-six 7th and 8th grade students were recognized during the candlelight induction ceremony. In order to qualify for membership, students had to have achieved an A/B average in all of their core academic subjects during the first semester of the 2005/2006 school year.
New inductees were distinguished from the existing members by the red carnations they carried, (girls), or wore as boutonniere, (boys), as the entire club processed into the theater to tune of Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
Once seated, Beta Club officers Sophia Chen (President), Gus Inabinet (Vice-President), Adair Bramlett (Secretary) and Gavin Fawcett (Treasurer), assisted by 8th grade representative Atieno Adongo and 7th grade representative Sarah Dobbs, lead the new members through the induction service. As their names were read out before an audience of fellow classmates and proud parents, the new inductees mounted the stage to receive their membership certificates, and a congratulatory hand shake from Middle School Head, Mr. Rick McCormick.
The ceremony concluded with an elegant reception in the foyer of the theater for the new inductees, their parents and existing Beta Club members. The punch, delicious finger foods, and beautiful flower arrangements provided by the mothers of Middle School entertainment committee made this a memorable occasion for our community.
