Fifty-Eight Inducted into The National Junior Beta Club - 2/21/2007
The Hammond chapter of the National Junior Beta Club held its annual induction ceremony in the Bank of America Theater on Wednesday, February 21, 2006. A total of fifty-eight 7th and 8th grade students were recognized during the candlelight induction ceremony. In order to qualify for membership, students had to have achieved an A or B average in all of their core academic subjects during the first semester of the 2006-2007 school year. A student cannot earn a C in any core subject by the end of the semester.
New inductees were distinguished from the existing members by the red carnations they carried, (girls), or wore as boutonniere, (boys), as the entire club processed into the theater to tune of Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
Once seated, Beta Club speakers, Sarah Felmly, Pearson Fowler, Sam Grosby, Adair Bramlett, Erica Coward and Cole Brown, delivered brief speeches focused on merit, confidence, fellowship, cooperation, honesty, tolerance and fidelity to the Beta Club organization.
Immediately following the student speeches, Guest Speaker, Headmaster Adam de Pencier, charged inductees and current members "to be open to the challenges and opportunities that would be encountered during their life time."
As their names were read out before an audience of fellow classmates and proud parents, the new inductees mounted the stage to receive their membership certificates and a congratulatory hand shake from Middle School Head, Mr. Rick McCormick and Hammond School Headmaster, Mr. Adam de Pencier.
The ceremony concluded with an elegant reception in the foyer of the theater for the new inductees, their parents and guests. The punch, delicious finger foods, and beautiful flower arrangements provided by the mothers of Middle School entertainment committee made this a memorable occasion for our community.
