1. All juniors and their parents
should plan to attend the Eleventh Grade College
Counseling Night on Monday, September 10, at
6:00 in the Bank of America Theater. This is a mandatory
meeting designed to kickoff the college admissions process.
You don’t want to miss it!
2. Juniors, along with freshmen and sophomores, will
take the PSAT on Wednesday morning
(8:00-noon), October 17, at Hammond. The junior year
PSAT is used as a qualifying test for
the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
For more information on National Merit,
go to http://www.nationalmerit.org/
3. A PSAT Prep Seminar for juniors
will be held on campus Wednesday, October 10, from 8
am-12pm in the Lecture Hall. Juniors should bring checks
to Ms. Easler made payable to Hammond School for $25.00
by September 28.
4. Juniors are encouraged to explore www.collegeboard.com
for additional information on the PSAT,
test preparation, and the National Merit Scholarship
Competition. Follow the links for students and click
on College Board tests, then PSAT/NMSQT.
5. The annual in-state and out-of-state college
tours will take place November 13-15. Juniors
are required to participate in one of the two. Itinerary,
cost, and sign up info will follow at a later date.
6. Above all else juniors should concentrate on doing
well in classes. College admissions committees sometimes
weigh junior and senior grades more heavily. Nothing
takes the place of doing well in a rigorous curriculum.
Make no mistake: Your junior year is a very
important year. Start strong. Maintain your momentum.
7. Juniors are invited and encouraged to attend sessions
with college representatives visiting Hammond. Visit
schedules are included in Daily Announcements
and are posted on the College Counseling website
and on the bulletin board in Manning Hall well in advance.
(Juniors must get permission in advance
from the subject area teacher whose class will be missed
and are responsible for any work missed.)
8. The University
of Georgia and Georgia Tech will host their Columbia
area info session on our campus September 11 (7:00-8:30)
in the Bank of America Theater. Register in advance
at www.admissions.uga.edu/infosessions.
