Juniors should be especially mindful of doing well in
classes this semester. Many
colleges heavily consider junior year coursework in the
admissions process.
Make no mistake: Your junior year is an important one.
2. Our school code is 410533. Memorize
this number. The only way Hammond will
receive your scores is if you enter our school code. You
will be asked for
it when you register for the SAT and/or the ACT. Many
colleges will request this
number as well.
3. Juniors should take the SAT in March and again in
May.
• Students must register for the March 1 SAT
no later than January 29.
• Students must register for the May 3 SAT no
later than April 1.

You must supply this number when you register with
College Board to take the SAT.
4. The best preparation for the SAT is taking advantage
of a rigorous curriculum
throughout your high school career. However, as the test
date draws closer, it is
also important to become familiar with the test format
and to spend some time
on focused review. Make good use of your PSAT Score Report
by evaluating your
strengths and weaknesses and tailoring your review to
meet your individual
needs. SAT prep is critical. There are several excellent
options. All
options require effort and commitment on your part. You
might want to
consider one of the following:
• Purchasing an SAT Prep book and working through
the practice problems on your own.
• Completing the online SAT prep course offered
by College Board. Details available at www.collegeboard.com
• Taking an SAT prep class from a reputable
test prep company.
• Securing the help of an SAT tutor.
5. Juniors are encouraged to use College Board’s
program My College QuickStart
at www.collegeboard.com/quickstart as SAT prep and the
college search
become top priorities.
6. Juniors enrolled in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Language
and Composition,
PreCalculus, AP US History should consider taking SAT
II’s in those subject
areas in May or June if you are considering a college/university
that requires or
recommends SAT II Subject Tests. For more information

7. Mark Your Calendars: The Junior Student Symposium has
been scheduled for
Tuesday, January 15, from 8:00-10:00 am. Following a brief
introductory
session, students will have an opportunity to attend three
of the following
workshops presented by guest speakers who are experts
on college admissions:

8. The same slate of topics will be offered to junior
parents during a Junior Parent
Symposium Monday, January 14, from 5:00-7:00 pm. This
is an absolute Don’t
Miss Event for all junior parents. Following a brief introductory
session, parents
will have an opportunity to attend three breakout sessions
on the above topics.
Registration details were mailed December 12.
9. Mrs. Bickley will begin conducting junior family conferences
beginning January
22. Families should contact Ms. Easler in the College
Counseling Office to
schedule an appointment. Conferences will last approximately
one hour and will
be scheduled during junior free periods or study halls.
Conferences will include
the junior student and at least one parent.
10.The National Association for College Admission Counseling
is sponsoring a
National College Fair in Charlotte at the Charlotte Merchandise
Mart on
Sunday, March 30, from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. This
is an excellent opportunity
for juniors and their parents to begin to explore college
opportunities and meet
with individual college representatives from across the
