  • Presbyterian College’s Board of Trustees recently approved a proposal to create a new pharmacy school in the Upstate.   • The University of Chicago recently highlighted its ten year old Theater and Performance Studies program which is setting a new standard for the integration of theory and practice in the performing arts. Courses are taught by some of the most exciting theater artists working today. In addition the University of Chicago recently announced its Odyssey Initiative which allows families that earn less than $60,000 a year to avoid taking any student loans and will cut the expected amount of loans in half for families earning between $60,000 and $75,000.   • Clemson University's Department of Economics recently announced the formation of a dual bachelors degree program in Economics with the Universite' catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Students completing this program will receive both a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Clemson and a baccalaureat en sciences economiques et de gestion (bachelors in economics and management) degree from UCL.   • South Carolina Student Loan is accepting applications for the South Carolina Teacher Loan program. Entering freshmen must be enrolled in a program of teacher education or have expressed interest in enrolling in such a program, rank in the top 40% of their high school class, and have an SAT/ACT average equal to or greater than the SC average. Applications and further information are available at www.scstudentloan.org
  • South Carolina Student Loan awards a $1000 scholarship each month in a random drawing. Juniors and seniors are eligible to participate. Students and parents can register at www.scstudentloan.org. Once registered, names will be entered into each monthly drawing through August 2008.
  • The National Society of Daughter of the American Revolution awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of an undergraduate degree in one of the following areas: history, political science, economics, government or nursing.   • The University Space Research Association (USRA) annually makes awards from four scholarship funds aimed at undergraduate students who are interested in space related research and careers.   • American Legion 2009 High School Oratorical Scholarship: Students who are US citizens or lawful permanent residents in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate. A prepared oration of eight to ten minutes must be given on any phase of the Constitution of the United States of America which will emphasize the attendant duties and obligations to our government.   • Robertson Scholars Program promotes collaborative study between Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and recognizes students for academic excellence, leadership potential, commitment to community service, and ethical principles.   • Union Plus Scholarship Program: Current and retired members of AFL-CIO unions participating in any Union Plus program, their spouses and their dependent children (including foster children, step children, and any other child for whom the individual member provides greater than 50% of his or her support) can apply for a Union Plus Scholarship.   • Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship: The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship fund provides four scholarships.   • The Holocaust Remembrance Project is a national essay contest for high school students designed to encourage and promote the study of the Holocaust. Participation in this project encourages students to think responsibly, be aware of world conditions that undermine human dignity, and make decisions that promote the respect and value inherent in every person.
