The Admission Process
We are pleased you are exploring Hammond School and look forward to working with you during this exciting time for you and your family. Below you will find helpful information to guide you through the admission process.
Step 1: Schedule a visit to Hammond. (Call the Office of Admission to schedule an individual time to visit the school or attend one of our Open House Events listed on our calendar.)

Step 2: Submit a completed application with the $75 application fee

Step 3: Teacher recommendations and Transcript (grades 2-12). Please give the recommendation and transcript release forms directly to the current teachers and Principal or Guidance Counselor (for transcript), providing him or her with our envelope addressed to the Office of Admission.

Step 4: Student visitation / assessment / entrance testing. Applicants spend part of a school morning (Pre-Kindergarten-1st) or a full day with their age group (2nd-5th). Hammond teachers will spend time with each candidate to observe cognitive, physical, and social development. Students entering grades 6th-12th can arrange for a visit by calling our office for a time convenient to their schedule. The SSAT will be administered on National Test dates and can be offered on alternative dates. (Please see assessment and test dates below)

Step 5: Notification of the admission decision will be communicated with the family starting in early December.

Assessment/Testing Dates

Lower School (Grades Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 5)

  • Assessment and visit day for rising Pre-Kindergarten November 7 & 8
  • Assessment and visit day for rising Kindergarten and 1 st November 14 & 15
  • Assessment and visit day for rising 2 nd-5 th January 17, 24, 31
*Upon receipt of your application, the Office of Admission will notify you of your child’s assigned assessment day*

Middle and Upper School (Grades 5-12)

Hammond welcomes applicants to visit campus and attend classes throughout the school year. A visit can be scheduled by calling the Office of Admission.

  • Hammond requires all applicants for grades Sixth and above to take an admission entrance test, either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Hammond is recognized as a SSAT test site. You may register for the SSAT online at www.ssat.org or by phone at 609-683-4400. Hammond’s School code is 3677. You may take the test at Hammond or any designated test location throughout the year.

  • If you can't take the SSAT on a regularly scheduled date, Hammond provides the SSAT Flex Test throughout the year. Please contact the Office of Admission to schedule a date and time for the SSAT.
